EV. THOMAS IV LEIR:

Notes for M
ARY SHORE:
Margaret Shuffrey (Margaret Barratt) has a photocopy of Mary Shore's diary of that was given to her by Mr. Fuller, a subsequent owner of Jaggards. It is a catalogue of where and when they went any where and when they came back, although it does record her marriage and the birth of her children. It isn't easy to read.

Up until 1764 the Leir family had been based on Ditcheat and nearby Charlton
Musgrove. The Macie family had owned the Weston Estate, near Bath, since
the Reformation (Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries). A cousin of
the Macies, Jane Kington, married John Shore (father of Mary Shore) at Weston in 1740, and John
Macie, 1719-1761, left Weston to their son John. He died before
inheriting, and the estate passed to Mary Shore on the death of Elizabeth
Macie in 1800. (Gerald Schuch: "Weston Estates in the 19th Century")
