Notes for R
ICHARD LEIR:
The Leir family was seated for upwards of two centuries in Teignmouth in the County of Devon.

Sir Peter Leir of Lyndridge Hall, Devon, was created a Baronet in 1660 and possessed extensive property, including a manor in Devon.

The first family to settle in Somerset was Richard Leir 1574-1654 who was Rector of Teignmouth from 1603 until 1617 when he moved and later became Rector of Charlton Musgrove from 1617 until his death in 1654.

From Jay Glanville's ancestry site:

In 1620 Sir Francis Glanville and Sir Baptist Hexte were elected Members of Parliament for Tavistock. In 1625 Glanville again sat for the same town with John Pym, Esq., and also in 1628. The Rectory of Charlton Musgrove becoming vacant in 1617, Glanville, as patron, presented the Rev. Richard Leir, B.D., of Exeter, aa Rector.
